This E-Portfolio is a home for my academic content, experiences and personal stories.
Bienvenidos!About meI am a recent graduate from the University of Washington with a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Community Environment Planning. I am especially interested in urban sustainability through energy, waste, and transportation. Reserved yet bold, I surprise my friends when I tell them how I regularly talk to dozens of strangers at work. I like to express myself through my clothes, balancing feminine and masculine qualities. Things I appreciate include ambitious people, boat houses and fresh air.
InspirationsBeing born and raised in Seattle has contributed to my appreciation of the urban environment as well as the natural world. As a child, I spent a lot of time at my grandmother's house. She was an artist and carpenter who designed and built her own house and furniture. Her house resembled a cultural museum with artifacts from all over the world. Because of her, I have an appreciation for design and cultural diversity. Spending time as a kid with my dad who worked in the eco-tourism industry in Alaska and the San Juan Islands allowed me to see the beauty of our world early on. Early travel with my mom to her original home in Vietnam also opened me up to new cultural perspectives. Seeing the level of pollution in the largest city in Vietnam, in combination with the levels of density, growth and poverty made me more aware of the systems within a city and how important governance is for healthy societies. In their own very different ways, my parents have also set an example of how to be generous, open minded, and passionate.
GoalsCareer wise, I look forward to managing sustainability programs on the city level, particularly ones involving waste management or energy. Graduate school may come after I have some years of experience in the workforce. At this point, programs that are most appealing involve energy governance. Doing this abroad, in the Netherlands for example, would be an ideal place to start a new chapter. I also have ambitious travel plans to continue exploring the world. Top destinations include Greece, Argentina, Chile, Japan, Thailand, Morocco, and Croatia. Lifestyle wise, I want to exercise more, learn to cook more mouthwatering food, be a more engaged citizen and live near the water.
